KRÖTE Base Paint with Lincoln Wright for the Panzer Aufklärungs T.W.47

Hello friends!

Hope you have all had a safe and Merry Christmas and enjoyed being with your loved ones, as possible.

Here’s my Base Paint up for the 2012 release of the Kröte and thought I could share this with you to help with ideas on painting the recently released Küster version.

The new kit shares the same base model plus you can make this T.W.47 from that kit as well. As you can see, after applying the texture I’ve actually used an airbrush for the base color and primer stage. Airbrushes are wonderful tools for applying even coats of color and primer like this to which we can then add varied color coats, also with the airbrush or hand brushing them on like I am doing here.

So why would you put the airbrush away and go back to hand painting Linc?

In this case I had two reasons, first was to actually lay down uneven, varied coats with a large brush as shown, for that Japanese Studio Maschinen Krieger look and secondly to add in the varied tone panels with a 2nd color mix without the need for tedious masking - I just painted them in over the top.

There’s no right nor wrong here, airbrushing in these steps is also a fine approach.

Please choose which you will enjoy more, that is always the best approach!

Happy modelling!

This Kröte has been finished with a custom texture, slightly more aggressive but the same process as with the main texture I have shown you on the ground MK44s so far.

The Kröte also features custom, hand made brass lifting lugs, brass safety bars plus a scratch built antennae added.

As I don’t want to obscure any detail nor the texture, I’ve gone with an initial color coat of Gloss Black. Yes, it’s also a primer as the acrylic lacquer paint chemically etches itself to the bare plastic.

Here’s the large, flat brush I used to paint on the first color coat of Field Grey from Mr Color.

I did not capture video back then so here’s a shot to show the basic brush action.

Large mechanical sections were blocked in with Mr Color RLM 66 Black Grey and the exposed engine with Mr Color Propellor Color 131. Check out the old bottle cap style, so nostalgic! The different color sections were additionally painted over with Mr Color RLM Grey 60
