Hunde Lunar Bases - Build

Luna Hunde Bases!

Hey everyone! Linc here, and I'm excited to share my process for creating display bases for my Luna Hunde series.

Please keep in mind that these are unpainted and this is only the physical structure and texture. Think of them as a kind of greyscale image, if that makes sense?

These bases are designed to improve the presentation of your models, with a focus on:

Height - Adding a little extra height to make your model stand out

Narrative - Creating a context for your model to tell its story. Not everyone will be familiar with your model.

Stability - Keeping your bipedal models upright and balanced

Ease of Movement - Making it easy to handle your models without damaging them

No Touching ™ - because that NEVER happens. Does it!?!

Using off-the-shelf materials, I've created a simple and replicable design that enhances the model without overpowering it. Think of the base as the supporting cast, and the model as the main character!

Materials

Unless otherwise pointed out, all the bases share the same construction materials.

Form

  • the main form is a wooden pencil holder from Kaiser Craft. Dimensions 80 x 80 x 100mm.

Cladding

  • 0.5mm plastic plate

Volume

  • Insulation foam 30mm

  • Cork tiles, untreated 5mm

  • Cork sheets, 2mm

  • Acrylic, coarse pumice textures

Glue

  • Woodworking Carpeter's Glue

  • Black CA

Texture

  • Rocks

  • Sand

Armed with these materials you should be set in making great-looking bases to display your mecha models.

Check out the detailed photos and captions to see how I brought these bases to life here.

Next up, I'll be sharing my detailed painting process and research on the Moon's surface to create a more accurate and varied representation. Stay tuned!

Feel free to ask questions or share your own base-building experiences in the comments below. Happy modeling, and I'll catch you in the next post!

Best, Linc
