Patlabor Plastic Kits... Shall we?
Mild animated mecha violence? Nudity? Japanese bad words…?
Yes please! Of course, I was young and wanted to know all such things…
Heya friends, I’ve always really liked these Mecha designs from the Patlabor manga and am wondering if they are somewhat known outside of Japan?
The show was kind of special for me as it was set in near-future Tokyo which I felt I was living in. I even saw one of the real-size mock-ups parked on a flatbed on the street in Aoyama. It was so real!! Well, real looking, hehe. ^^
The show was an 80s Japanese cop show with the police using mecha to stop the bad guy’s who were using military-grade mecha. You know, people always get into mischief once they suit up into mecha of course.
I have especially fond memories as I used to purchase these comic books as a way to improve my Japanese reading ability.
Yes, that was my reason, I promise… not just for Mecha action! haha!
There are a couple of new kits on the way from AOSHIMA that look especially nice quality and am thinking of picking them up, painting and weathering and writing about them… because…
Natsukashii!! (Nostalgia!)
There’s the iconic AV-98 Ingram usually simply refreed to as the “Ingram”
Plus the quite different aestic of the reactive armor "Alphonse" with Reactive Armor
They are both in 1/43 scale and should paint up weather nicely.
Let me know your thoughts and happy modelling.
