Toys!?! I am offended! This is Why I Work to Tend my Own Garden.
Hello friends, here are some random thoughts over the last week as I sit, chained to my desk and writing The Words...so many words… and it’s a photo heavy tutorial book! How do REAL authors even get those books done!?! Here’s hoping they look at all my beautiful photos and wonder the same thing. Hey, I just honestly complimented myself because truly, they ARE beautiful photos!
Kidding aside, this wonderful opportunity to do a bunch of writing has rekindled both my love for writing and storytelling. It has also interestingly coincided with a growing disappointment with my personal involvement on social media platforms and the very shallow and ephemeral nature of the shares I’ve been spending time on... a photo and a line or two and then the information is lost to the depths within moments.
I want to give you more and I want you to also be able to find it again.
But... I also have this nagging feeling that it’s all different. Or am I just peering back through rose colored glasses? I remember Facebook being a wonderful hive of creativity and sharing within our hobby. I don’t remember people being offended all the time and demanding and cancelling things.
Has this been a gradual process and just crept up on me or was I taking the day off when the announcement came?
Or is it because we are still in this awful pandemic and we genuinely have much more to be upset about now?
In any event, I am at least wise enough to know to “tend my own garden”. This is a wonderful translation of a quote and story from Voltaire, the author of Candide. I’ve referenced it many times myself if I feel I am getting caught up in the affairs of others so it came as quite a surprise when I went to YouTube to see what Team Coco might be up to with their cardboard cut out audience and the almighty algorithm presented me with this gem. The perfect reminder at the perfect time. Linked for you below.
Hope you enjoyed the story and tending your garden this weekend.
