Sci-Fi F.A.Q. by Lincoln Wright from AK-Interactive. Review by the Author

Hello friends, I’m Lincoln Wright, author of the Sci-Fi FAQ and welcome to my unashamedly biased review of the book.

It is fantastic!

The end…

Kidding! First things first, although I have the honour of authoring, it is the result of many professionals at the top of their game. Many thanks to Fernando, the President of AK-Interactive for offering me such a prestigious project and a humble “thank you” to all the top artists who contributed works in their areas of special interest and focus.

Special thank you to Kow Yokoyama Sensei who signed off on my Maschinen Krieger works and approved them as official with his licence & blessing. You can see this at the beginning with his very special message as well. He has a copy and loves it!

Although let me point out that it is not a Maschinen Krieger book, it’s an FAQ title and quite broad across Sci-Fi yet features more Ma.K than one might expect or has been shared in the past.

In summary, it really is a collection of the very best works of Sci-Fi modelling and is the most thorough compilation of build, paint and weathering techniques all in one mighty tome of 428 pages.

It’s a must-have.

Topics covered include;

How to Choose a Kit?

Types of kits, brands and selected Sci-Fi genre. Yes, Sci-Fi is HUGE so I felt it would help to try to give you a better overview of how it all fits together and what direction you might like to take - there’s way more choice than you might imagine.

How to Approach a Basic Build

New to modelling? No worries, let me guide you through your first Sci-Fi builds.

Basic Building Tools, then how to upgrade kits and a very brief touch on scratchbuilding.

What we need to Paint

This is where most of my Frequently Asked Questions come in, types of paint and how to combine and layer them. I’ve gone quite deep on this one to assist you in your understanding. As a little boy cracking open Humbrols unsupervised to water-based paints to hand brushing AND airbrushing Mr Color, I’ve got you covered here.

Painting Techniques

This is really where we can open up and go hard because everything is on the table with Sci-Fi techniques. I’m old school to new school so include everything I have ever used along with things I don’t use but my friends are experienced with and have added them as well.

I take you through basic priming, paint applications and weathering steps and along with many great examples from my friends, we then share with you our advanced techniques too. It’s an awe-inspiring collection of all the best techniques available to us with a sincere respect to the generations of creative modellers whose shoulders we now stand on to modern artists inventing new ways and combinations to work with.

Groundwork and Figures

We’ve also included some tips on making bases and groundwork and painting figures here to get you started but of course, this publisher has excellent books dedicated to these subjects if you’d like to learn more.

Gallery

We reached out to all our friends and bring you the best works and artists, I’m so happy to share them with you. So much inspiration here for years to come, you will really enjoy the gallery.

There we go, lessons from my life’s work, along with all the untold hours and genius invested by the best Sci-Fi modellers in the world distilled down into 428 pages of pure awesome sauce.

Hope you like it.
